USATF Recognizes Mehock

During USATF's National Convention in Columbus last December, the organization inducted Mansfield Relays founder, Harry Mehock, as the 13th member to the United States Track Meet Directors Association Hall of Fame. Current meet director, Sharon Wiegand, along with past directors Doug Castle and Brady Groves, accepted the Howard Schmerts Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the Mansfield City Schools and the Mehock family.

The prestigious national honor recognized Harry Mehock's 41 years as director of the meet that bears his name. Mehock was a true visionary, constructing the first all-weather, ten-lane track north of the Mason Dixon line in 1964. Over the next twenty years the meet routinely drew over 2,500 competitors from six states and the Province of Ontario, making it one of the largest high school only track and field meets in the nation.

The Relays still remain a source of civic pride for Mansfield and countless found memories for those who have competed. I thank you for your continued participation in this legacy track meet.

We look forward to continuing the tradition of being one of the Midwest's most competitive high school track and field meets. We hope you will consider the 86th Mansfield Mehock Relays in your 2018 track schedule as we build on this festival of athletics and outstanding performances. "
